Before the Civil War, thousands of enslaved African-Americans in the southern United States escaped northward to freedom using a clandestine network of safe houses known as the Underground Railroad. This presentation explores the verified and rumored Underground Railroad “stops” in DuPage County and the abolitionists (anti-slavery activists) who operated them.
